In a debut season with the Philadelphia 76ers to forget, nine-time All-Star Paul George is contemplating a medical procedure for groin and knee injuries, ESPN reported Thursday.
A decision on how to handle multiple injuries could come by early next week, according to the report.
George has missed five of the past six games as the 76ers have fallen well off the pace in the Eastern Conference with a 22-43 record to sit five games out of a play-in tournament spot heading into NBA play Thursday.
Philadelphia also is 33 games behind the first-place Cleveland Cavaliers and will be without star Joel Embiid for the remainder of the season because of a knee injury.
In the first year of a four-year, $212 million contract, George, 34, has averaged 16.2 points with 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 41 games. It is the first time George has averaged below 21 points per game since returning late in the 2014-15 season from a compound leg fracture.
Trouble started early when George came away with a hyperextended left knee during a preseason game, then injured the same knee in November. He also had a finger injury in January before being slowed by his current groin issue.
In 15 seasons with the Indiana Pacers (2010-2017), Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-2019), Los Angeles Clippers (2019-2024) and 76ers, George has averaged 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 908 games (860 starts).
