The Las Vegas Raiders are signing veteran running back Raheem Mostert to a one-year, $1.2 million contract, according to multiple reports on Thursday.
The free agent is reunited with the Raiders' new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who was the head coach in San Francisco in 2016 when Mostert played for the 49ers. Kelly also was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles when Mostert was briefly on the practice squad in 2015.
The Miami Dolphins released Mostert, who turns 33 in April, in February and saved $2.9 million in salary cap space.
Mostert joined Miami in 2022 and enjoyed his finest season in 2023, rushing for 1,012 yards and leading the NFL with 21 touchdowns from scrimmage. He was selected to the Pro Bowl.
Playing behind second-year back De'Von Achane in 2024, Mostert split backup duties with rookie Jaylen Wright and rushed for 278 yards and two TDs in 13 games (one start).
Undrafted in 2015, Mostert has rushed for 3,791 yards and 34 touchdowns in 103 games (39 starts) for the Dolphins (2015, 2022-24), Baltimore Ravens (2015), Cleveland Browns (2015), Chicago Bears (2016) and San Francisco (2016-21).
The Raiders' top rushers last season, Alexander Mattison (420 yards, four touchdowns) and Ameer Abdullah (311, two), are unrestricted free agents. Mostert could head the depth chart ahead of Zamir White, Sincere McCormick and Chris Collier.
