The New York Rangers moved captain J.T. Miller to injured reserve on Tuesday with an upper-body issue, according to multiple media outlets.
ESPN reported the injury is unrelated to the one that forced Miller to miss seven games in December and January.
Miller recovered in time to win an Olympic gold medal with the United States and notably helped the American penalty kill perform perfectly (17-for-17) throughout the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy.
The 32-year-old center has endured a disheartening season with the Rangers, the last-place team in the Eastern Conference. The Madison Square Garden crowd booed players off the ice during Monday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, which dropped the Rangers' home record to 7-15-6.
Miller's assist against Columbus brought his season point total to 38 (14 goals, 24 assists) in 51 games. His minus-24 rating is a team low and ranks in the bottom 10 league-wide.
He has 747 career points (274 goals, 473 assists) in 922 games with the Rangers (2012-18, 2025-26), Tampa Bay Lightning (2017-19) and Vancouver Canucks (2019-25).
The Rangers drafted Miller with the No. 15 overall pick in 2011, and reacquired him last January in a trade with the Canucks and named him captain in September.
