Seven-time All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez and the Cleveland Guardians are finalizing a restructured seven-year, $175 million contract that would extend his current deal by four seasons, multiple media outlets reported on Saturday.
The deal, which would include $70 million in deferred payments, would keep Ramirez with the Guardians through the 2032 season, when he will turn 40. He has three years and $69 million remaining on the five-year, $124 million extension he signed in 2022, which would be folded into the new deal.
He has expressed interest in the past in playing for only one franchise in his career. As a 10-year veteran who has spent at least five years with his current team, he has a veto power over trades.
Ramirez, 33, has ended up in the top-10 in American League MVP voting on eight occasions, including a third-place finish in the balloting last season. He batted .283 with 30 homers, 85 RBIs and 44 stolen bases in 158 games in 2025.
Ramirez resides second in franchise history in homers (285, trailing only Hall of Famer Jim Thome's 337) and stolen bases (287, trailing only Kenny Lofton's 452). He has a career .279 batting average.
He is third in games played in team history with 1,609, but provided he is healthy to start the season, will quickly surpass Terry Turner (1,619) to become the franchise leader.
