NEW YORK CITY, New York: An expected August concert is planned to mark the end of the Covid lockdowns, as part of events to celebrate the reopening of New York City, one of the world's top tourist destinations.
The Central Park concert will include an undisclosed line-up of major musical artists to celebrate the return of city life, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday.
The concert will be part of a week-long celebration of the city.
"This is going to be an amazing, memorable once-in-a-lifetime week in New York City," the mayor told a news conference.
Music industry figure Clive Davis will organize the concert, which will feature an "all-star" roster of artists, according to de Blasio.
Of note, local media reported that the concert will have vaccinated and unvaccinated sections, with about 70 percent of tickets going to those who have been vaccinated.
Following the 15 month lockdown, New York City's streets, restaurants and parks are again crowded with residents and tourists.
New York City reported the lowest Covid positivity rate since the pandemic began at 0.71 percent.
Some 4.5 million people have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine in New York City, according to officials.
