Cape Town - South African golfer Retief Goosen has acknowledged he showed some nerves before landing his maiden PGA Tour Champions title.
The two-time US Open winner carded a final round of 2-under 68 to secure a two-stroke victory in the Senior Players Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio on Sunday.
"It was just great to do it... it's been 10 years since I last won a tournament," Goosen told the PGA Tour website.
"The nerves were there, and to have those nerves a little bit again in the last few weeks, you know, you've just got to put yourself in a position all the time to get used to it again and that's what I've done and it finally paid off this week."
Goosen pocketed a cool $450 000 (R6.2 million) for his four-day efforts.
The win sees the 50-year-old exempt for next year's Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass on the regular PGA Tour.
Goosen was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame earlier this year, joining Gary Player, Ernie Els and Bobby Locke in becoming the fourth South African to join the esteemed list.
